The crocodile which died  in Matara is due to the negligence of the forestry workers
It was revealed that the rare crocodile species which was caught from Mathara Polathu River died due to the negligence of the forestry workers. The area resident’s who caught this 15 feet long crocodile and handed over to the forestry officials and the crocodile has died on the way to Boondala.
The postmortem conducted by the veterinary surgeon Vijitha Perera of the Udawalawe Ath Athuru Sevana reported the crocodile has died unable to breath. It was revealed that when travelling a distance of 85 KM from Matara to Boondala the crocodile has died unable to breath.
 
Since more crocodiles are living in the Matara Nilwala River people does not use the river to fetch water. Two years before a similar crocodile 16.5 feet length was caught from the Nilwala River and this was the second longest crocodile found after that.
