These organizations held media briefings and demonstrations, poster campaigns, leaflet distributions etc. in an attempt to protect this environment system. They were opposed by many persons, but the environmentalists carried on amidst those disruptions.
These days the two organizations and people of the area are holding street dramas to raise awareness on the damage caused to environment at Rilagala Yaya. Today, they organized a street drama at Visuddharama temple at Tennapalla for students of its Dhamma school and area residents. As the drama was being staged, a group of four thugs stormed the temple, used filthy language and disrupted the event, said Nature and Environment Education Centre’s Ven. Wekandawala Rahula Thera.
The thugs had first threatened the chief priest of the temple, and then used filthy language on the Dhamma school students and others who were in the audience. Rahula Thera said the thugs were working to the wants of the company linked to the destruction of Rilagala Yala Mountain. He stressed that the organization formed for the protection of Rilagala Yaya and the Nature and Environment Education Centre would not stop their efforts despite any threats.
