''Neverska Lady'' reaches Sri Lanka to end the fuel shortage

''Neverska Lady'' the ship containing 40 000 metric tons of petrol reached Sri Lanka last night to end the previaling fuel shortage.

While the ship was reaching the Muthurajawela Bouy the Ministry of Petroleum Resources Development was able to give away only 2400 Metric Tons per day. But Sri Lanka's daily petroleum consumption is 98 000 barrels while a barrel contains 1/7 of one metric ton, and means the volume of 7 barrels is equal to one MT. Ultimately the daily consumption was only 14 000 Metric Tons in Sri Lanka.

Entire Sri Lanka whether city or rural was dissapointed due to this fuel shortage for past few days. Earlier Petroleum Minister Mr Arjuna Ranathunga circulated that petrol should be issued only for the vehicles but for the bottles and canes., but due to protests he had to take his circular back.

The president has appointed a Cabinet Sub Committiee to go on about the fuel shortage and the financial issues on it. The Government says that they will announce the reasons and the responsible parties on the issue.

It is expected that the shortage will turn back normal since today's afternoon.
