Delay in ballot box distribution in Kandy

A delay in ballot box distribution has been reported from Kandy.

The task is taking place at Ranabima Rajakeeya Vidyalaya at Peradeniya. Recipient officers were there since 6.00 am but the handover of the ballot boxes began only at 8.00. The delay led to the responsible officers being jeered several times.

Returning officer M.H.P. Hitisekara has told the media that 4,037 candidates were contesting for 620 seats in LG bodies in Kandy district.

There are 1,097,432 voters in the district, where voting will take place at 925 polling centres, while counting will be done at 368 centres.

Announcement of the results will take place at In-Service Training Institute at Gannoruwa. Around 14,000 officers are involved in election duty, said the returning officer.
