Clashes over, Yahapaalana govt. to continue
The local politics, heated up after the local government polls, has now started regaining normalcy. Various parties and groups tried to form a new government in place of the Yahapaalana government, but all those have now been thwarted, with its leaders deciding the protect the present regime, say political sources.
The president and the prime minister have reached agreement in that regard, with Ranil Wickremesinghe to continue as the premier. However, there will be a complete cabinet reshuffle, most likely in the coming week. As we reported previously, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka is to succeed Sagala Ratnayake as the law and order minister, with the president already receiving a request in that regard.
Meanwhile, several ministers are to sit in the opposition after a failed attempt by a group of SLFP ministers to form a government with Nimal Siripala de Silva as the prime minister. They will announce their decision at a media briefing.
