Curfew to be lifted in Kandy. “The country is relatively calm”, says PM

The curfew which was imposed on the Kandy administrative district from 4pm yesterday (7) to 4pm today (8) had been lifted by the IGP, stated the police spokesperson.

The president, Maithripala Sirisena arrived in Kandy yesterday to observe the progress of the sitiation. A meeting was called on by the president at the president’s house in Kandy with the participation of Mahasangha led by Anunayaka Theros of the Malwattha and

Asgiriya chapters, and Islamic Moulavies and other religious leaders, ministers, government officers, and chiefs of security sections 

In the meantime, the Prime minister stated yesterday that security forces and reinforcements were deployed to neutralize any possible outcomes by the extremists. He further stated that the state of country is relatively calm.

The former president, Mahinda Rajapaksha pointed out that their party is ready to help the government maintain peace and order in the island at a news briefing held at his residence yesterday.
