Issuing a statement about the discussion held between Jeffrey Feltman, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Mr. Kapila Waidyaratne at the Defence Ministry today, the ministry stated that the senior UN officer is pleased the reconciliation progress in the country.
The meeting was held as a part of Mr. Feltman’s three day visit to Sri Lanka to discuss about the UN engagement in the country including, peace and reconciliation progress.
He also met with Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe at the Temple trees today.
“During the ensuing discussion, matters relating to the national reconciliation process, including land release were taken up for discussion,” mentioned the statement.
Among others present at the discussion were the Director (Asia and Pacific) DPA, Ms. Mari Yamashita, Reconciliation and Development Advisor, UN Sri Lanka, Ms. Gita Sabharwal and Secretary to USG, DPA, Ms. Mary Sack, senior ministry and tri forces officers.
This is the Mr. Feltmans third visit to Sri Lanka, followed by his visits in 2015 and 2017 to observe the nation’s peacebuidling progress. His official visit will end on Sunday (11).
