A case against Wimal Weerawansa postponed for three months

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court today (30) adjourned the hearing of a case filed against six persons, including former Minister Wimal Weerawansa, until August 29.

The Cinnamon Gardens Police have filed a case against the then UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, against him, for obstructing public protests by blocking roads around the UN office in Colombo during Prince Seyed Al Hussein’s visit to Sri Lanka in 2016.

Jayantha Samaraweera, Mohamed Muzammil, Weerakumara Dissanayake, Piyasiri Wijenayake and Roger Seneviratne, who were prominent figures in the NFF led by Wimal Weerawansa, have been named as the other accused in the case.
