Public urged to be vigilant amidst risk of flooding

Risk alerts have been issued to many areas of the country due to the heavy precipitation, said the Disaster Mangagement Centre.

Accordingly;

Ingiriya, Palindanuwara, Walallawita and Bulathsinhala of the Kalutara District, Bulathkohupitiya, Deraniyagala, Ruwanwella, Yatiyanthota, Aranayake and Dehiowita of the Kegalle District, Ganga Ihala Koralaya and Pasbage Koralaya of the Kandy District, Pitabeddara of the Matara District, Ambagamuwa, Kothmale and Nuwara Eliya of the Nuwara Eliya District and Opanayake of the Ratnapura District have been issued risk alerts under Stage i.

Kuruwita, Eheliyagoda, Kolonna, Ayagama, Elapatha, Balangoda, Imbulpe, Godakawela, Kiriella, Kahawatta, Nivithigala, Ratnapura, Kalawana and Pelmadulla have been issued risk alerts under Stage ii.

The water levels may continue to rise in the Nilwala River basin, Kitulgala area of Kelani River and Ratnapura area of Kalu River, according to Deputy Director of the Disaster Management Centre Pradeep Kodippili.

Meanwhile, the water level of the Mahaweli River has also risen from Nawalapitiay area and the people of the nearby areas have been informed to stay vigilant.

A sluice gate has been opened in the Kukule Ganga reservoir and the sluice gates of the Lakshapana reservoir have also been opened, and the people living nearby have been informed to stay vigilant.
