August 03, Colombo (LNW): The current spell of wet weather affecting much of the country is likely to ease from around midday tomorrow (04), according to the Department of Meteorology.
Speaking at a media briefing held today (03) at the Department of Government Information, Director General of Meteorology Ajith Wijemannage said weather conditions are expected to improve temporarily after several days of persistent rainfall.
However, he cautioned that a developing typhoon over the Pacific Ocean, south of Japan, could influence regional weather patterns and bring another increase in rainfall after 6 August.
Wijemannage also noted that intermittent showers are still likely along the western slopes of the Central Highlands during the coming days.
The Department of Meteorology forecasts that the heaviest rainfall is expected across the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, with the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts also likely to experience significant showers. The public has been advised to remain updated on weather forecasts, particularly in areas prone to flooding and landslides.
