Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala says the government suspects that recent unrest reported at several prisons across the country may have been the result of a planned conspiracy or acts of sabotage, based on investigations and intelligence gathered so far.
Speaking in Parliament today (07), the Minister said preliminary investigations have identified drug-related activities and underworld involvement as the immediate causes behind the recent clashes and unrest within prisons.
He added that further investigations are underway to determine the full extent of any organised involvement behind the incidents.
