September 13, Colombo (LNW): The atmospheric conditions are favourable for afternoon thundershowers in most parts of the Island today (13).
Heavy falls about 100 mm are likely at some places in North-central, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Western and North-western provinces.
A few showers will occur in Western province and in Galle and Matara districts during the morning.
The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damage caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Marine Weather:
Condition of Rain: Showers may occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Mullaittivu to Batticaloa via Trincomalee during the evening or night.
Winds: Winds will be South-westerly. Wind speed will be (30-40) kmph.
Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil.
State of Sea: The wave height may increase about (2.0 – 3.0) meters in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Pottuvil via Galle, Matara and Hambantota. Sea condition will be rough in these sea areas.
The naval and fishing communities who are engaged in fishing and naval activities in the above sea areas are requested to be vigilant in this regard.
