President Anura Kumara Dissanayake met with an International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation led by Mission Chief Evan Papageorgiou at the Presidential Secretariat, as the IMF team continues its visit to Sri Lanka.
According to a statement issued by the President’s Office, President Dissanayake said recent economic indicators show that Sri Lanka’s economy has moved towards greater stability. He said the Government’s objective is to build on this progress and take the country towards a transformative phase of development.
The IMF delegation commended the economic progress achieved by Sri Lanka to date, particularly measures taken to increase State revenue, attract foreign investment and maintain fiscal discipline, according to the statement.
President Dissanayake expressed appreciation for the IMF’s role in supporting Sri Lanka’s economic stabilisation and said the Government intends to preserve the gains achieved so far while moving forward with its economic programme.
He further said the Government’s objective is to use the progress made in stabilising the economy to improve the living standards and well-being of the people.
