September 21, Colombo (LNW): The latest rainfall observations from the Department of Meteorology indicate that several areas across the island have experienced substantial downpours, with Maliboda in Kegalle receiving the highest recorded rainfall of 104 mm over the past few hours.
Kalupahana, also in Kegalle District, recorded 95.5 mm, while Maskeliya in Nuwara Eliya received 85.5 mm. Other notable measurements included 85 mm in Polpithigama, Kurunegala, and 82.5 mm in Dammulla, Ratnapura.
Meteorologists have warned that unsettled weather is likely to continue in several parts of the country as the Southwest Monsoon remains active.
Intermittent showers or thundershowers are expected across the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North Western provinces, along with the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.
Some locations could receive around 100 mm of rain, raising the possibility of locally heavy downpours. Residents in affected areas have been advised to remain alert to changing weather conditions.
