The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal for Sri Lanka and Indonesia to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Bilateral Consultations, which will remain in force for five years.
The agreement is being pursued as the two countries prepare to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2027.
According to the Government, the MoU is intended to further strengthen, expand and advance bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Indonesia.
The proposed mechanism will provide a formal platform for regular consultations between the two countries, allowing them to assess the progress of bilateral relations, exchange views on bilateral and international developments, and coordinate positions on matters of mutual interest.
The agreement is also expected to establish a structured framework for continued diplomatic dialogue and cooperation between the two countries.
Accordingly, Cabinet approval was granted to the proposal submitted by the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism to sign the MoU between Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism.
