October 01, Colombo (LNW): Sri Lanka’s Court of Appeal has declined to hear a writ petition filed by former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, in which he sought legal protection against possible arrest or detention under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).
The petition was linked to ongoing investigations into the Easter Sunday attacks. The court’s decision effectively brings the former president’s attempt to secure such an order to an end at this stage.
The ruling was delivered by a two-judge bench comprising Court of Appeal President Justice Rohantha Abeysuriya and Justice Sarath Dissanayake, following consideration of the submissions presented in connection with the case.
