25-Year-Old Arrested Over Alleged USD 25 Million Overseas Transfer Scheme

The Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) has arrested a 25-year-old man from Wellampitiya for allegedly transferring approximately USD 25 million in foreign currency overseas under the guise of importing goods.

According to the police, the suspect allegedly transferred around Rs. 7.5 billion (USD 25 million) overseas through six Sri Lankan shell companies using telegraphic transfers via commercial banks between January 2024 and July 2025. Investigators allege that the transactions were carried out under the pretext of importing goods, although no goods were actually imported.
