Airbus Deal Case: Namal Rajapaksa Appears in Court

October 27, Colombo (LNW): SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa was brought before the Hulftsdorp court complex in Colombo on Tuesday (27) as legal proceedings connected to the controversial Airbus transaction resumed.

The latest court appearance follows an earlier hearing on October 13, when Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama ordered that Rajapaksa remain in remand custody until today.

The decision was made after the court considered submissions presented by officials of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) and legal representatives appearing on behalf of the parliamentarian.

The case returned to court today for further consideration, with the proceedings attracting attention because of their connection to the contentious aircraft deal.

The Airbus transaction has been the subject of scrutiny over allegations of corruption, making the legal proceedings a matter of public and political interest. The latest hearing is expected to determine the next steps in the case, depending on the submissions and decisions made by the court.

Further developments will depend on the court’s consideration of the matters placed before it and any subsequent orders issued in connection with the proceedings.
