National Development Bank PLC emerged as the most awarded corporate in Sri Lanka for 2022 as per annual rankings issued by the Sri Lankan business publication the LMD. This marks the second consecutive year that NDB secured this exceptional feat, amongst a large number of corporates across multiple sectors. Despite the numerous challenges that plagued the year, NDB continued its momentum in performance, striking delicate equilibrium across all aspects, attributable to the agility of its team and responsiveness of the business strategy, which was tactically adjusted to match the evolving macro-economic landscape. This was endorsed in the external awards and accolades that the Bank secured covering various performance aspects such as digital financial services, banking solutions, empowering the women’s market segment, corporate social responsibility, investor relations, HR practices, marketing and branding and corporate and financial reporting, etc.
The ‘Most Awarded’ entities listing published by LMD assess how brand strength, corporate reputation, performance and workplace perception lead to major accolades on both local and international levels. This study is initiated by compiling a comprehensive list of companies ranked in the Brand Annual, Most Respected, and LMD 100 special editions, the Best Workplaces in Sri Lanka, adjudged by Great Place To Work® for the specific period under review. Subsequently, research is conducted on the awards acquired, with the companies invited to submit a list of awards won. Awards obtained by individuals and ‘certifications’ have been excluded from the computations to produce the list of companies.
The highlight awards of the year were NDB securing the twin awards for Best Bank in Sri Lanka 2022 by two of the prestigious global publications in banking, Global Finance of USA and Euromoney. 2022 marked the first year in which NDB secured the Best Bank title from Euromoney, thereby becoming one of the few banks in Sri Lanka to have secured the triple Best Bank titles from the from Global Finance USA, Euromoney and The Banker UK which garner the respect as some of the most independent awards in banking and finance across the globe.
Additionally, the Bank was the recipient of a number of awards at top national awards schemes such as the National Business Excellence Awards conducted by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka, Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability Awards of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and Most Admired Corporates of CIMA Sri Lanka, Daily FT and International Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka.
Commenting on becoming the Most Awarded Corporate, NDB’s Director/ CEO stated that NDB continues to play a vital role in Sri Lanka’s economic revival through extending support and generating sustained value to all stakeholders that partner NDB. Awards are a definite motivation for us, as they are an independent evaluation of our efforts, and also an inspiration for us to raise the bar and set new standards to meet, he further added.
