Colombo (LNW): The very severe cyclonic storm “Biparjoy” over East-Central Arabian Sea was located near latitude 21.9 degrees North and longitude 66.3 degrees East at 0830 hours of June 14, and may move nearly north-eastwards during the next 24 hours and cross Pakistan coasts by evening of June 15, the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre of the Department of Meteorology said.
Naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture into the sea areas bounded by (18N – 25N) and between (65E – 75E) until further notice, and those out at the said sea regions are urged to return to coasts or be moved to safer areas immediately.
Meanwhile, several spells of showers will occur in Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces and in Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts, and showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Uva and Eastern provinces during the evening or night, the Dept said in its daily weather forecast today (15).
Strong winds about (40-45) kmph can be expected at times in western slopes of the central hills, North-Central and North-Western provinces and in Hambantota and Trincomalee districts, it added.
General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershower.
