Colombo (LNW): The heat index is expected to increase up to ‘caution’ level at some places in Northern, North-Central, Eastern and Uva provinces and Hambantota District amidst the prevailing hot climate, warned the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre of the Department of Meteorology in a statement issued today (21).

The Dept urged the public to stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade as often as possible, check up on the elderly, the sick and children, limit strenuous outdoor activities, and wear lightweight and white or light-coloured clothing.
