Power crisis: Tension grows as CEB opposes PUCSL’s suggestion

Despite the Ceylon Electricity Board’s (CEB) claim that it would be not practical to operate without a three-month power cut, there is no such problem, said Janaka Ratnayake the Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL).

The PUCSL Chairman added that instructions have already been given to disconnect power supply to large scale electricity consumers and meet their needs via the private generator system. Such a move will enable an uninterrupted supply of power island wide, he noted.

Nevertheless, this would consume a great deal of effort and commitment, Ratnayake pointed out.

The PUCSL Chief went on saying that although some people opine that there will be no fuel, the real problem is that the CEB does not have funds to purchase oil and that the PUCSL, therefore, has proposed a practical plan.
