April 29, Colombo (LNW): Senior members of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) the Ruling Party convened a meeting yesterday (28) for discussions on the party’s candidate for the upcoming presidential election, sources said.
This pivotal meeting took place at the residence of former President’s Secretary, Mr. Gamini Senarath, located in Hakmana, according to sources.
Following the ‘DP Education IT Campus’ certificate awarding ceremony in Matara, MP Dhammika Perera and Mr. Dishan Gunasekara, the Basnayaka Nilame of Kataragama Devala, joined Senarath for lunch.
Later, SLPP Leader and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, along with the Party’s National Organiser MP Namal Rajapaksa and a contingent of senior politicians, including Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, also attended the gathering, the sources added.
After extensive deliberations, sources assert that a consensus was reached regarding the SLPP’s presidential candidate for the forthcoming election.
Sources further suggest that party leader Mahinda Rajapaksa will formally announce this decision at the SLPP’s May Day Rally scheduled for May 1st.
