UPTUF launches nationwide strike over postal service staffing shortage

Date:

June 13, Colombo (LNW): The United Postal Trade Unions Front (UPTUF) initiated a trade union action commencing from midnight on the 12th.

A 24-hour nationwide strike is underway until midnight on the 13th, said UPTUF convener Chinthaka Bandara.

The primary aim of this industrial action is to prompt the government to promptly address the staffing shortage within the postal service.

However, Postmaster General Ruwan Sathkumara announced the immediate cancellation of all postal workers’ leave in response to the situation.

He voiced his disapproval of the ongoing trade union action, highlighting the Posts Department’s proactive measures to address existing concerns.

Sathkumara assured that every necessary measure would be taken to maintain uninterrupted postal services during this period.
