July 28, Colombo (LNW): During the “Ekwa Jaya Gamu – Api Galle” public rally held on 27th July at the Galle Municipal Council Stadium, President Ranil Wickremesinghe announced his candidacy for the upcoming presidential election and confirmed the necessary deposit has been made.
He emphasised his longstanding commitment to facing challenges and fulfilling his duties discreetly, reaffirming his dedication to advancing the nation.
The event was attended by over 50 ministers and parliamentarians from various parties, including the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, along with former ministers and more than 15,000 residents from the Galle district.
Attendees gathered to learn about the government’s agenda and future plans, expressing their support for the President’s electoral campaign.
In his speech, President Wickremesinghe highlighted the importance of adhering to the current programme agreed upon with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), dismissing claims that the government was operating outside this framework as harmful to the nation.
He also called for unity among politicians to work collectively for a better future for Sri Lanka’s youth.
Ministers Ali Sabry P.C., Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, Manusha Nanayakkara; State Minister Chamara Sampath Dasanayake; MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage; Galle District Coordinating Committee Co-Chairman and MP Sampath Athukorala; and MP Ishaq Rahuman from Samagi Jana Balawega, also spoke at the rally.
