Cabinet Approves Plan to Train 7,500 Teachers in Robotics and AI

September 04, Colombo (LNW): The Cabinet of Ministers has granted its consent to train 7,500 teachers in the areas of robotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI), as announced by Cabinet Spokesman and Mass Media Minister, Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana.

Speaking at a media conference held yesterday at the Government Information Department, Minister Gunawardhana highlighted that the national education policy framework has identified digital transformation as a crucial component. To achieve this, collaboration between the public and private sectors is encouraged to integrate artificial intelligence and new technologies into the education system.

According to the Minister, a pilot project was successfully conducted based on a proposal presented by the Skills College of Technology (SCOT CAMPUS), an institution recognized for its practical courses in fields such as information technology, mechatronics, and robotics.

The Cabinet of Ministers approved a joint proposal from President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Education Minister Susil Premajayantha to train 7,500 teachers in selected schools across all provinces. This initiative will focus on the STEAM concept, encompassing information technology, biotechnology, engineering technology, science, and mathematics, and will be executed in three stages at SCOT CAMPUS.
