Milk powder price to soar again? 01kg packet near Rs. 2000!

The price of imported milk may have to be increased again, said the milk powder importing companies, revealing that the request to surge the price was made to Consumer Protection Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna on March 07.

The price of one kilogram of milk powder in the global market has surged from US$ 2.80 to US$ 5.30 and due to the recent depreciation of the Sri Lankan Rupee, exceeding up to about Rs. 275 per Dollar, the importation of milk powder is being carried out at a loss.

The retail price of one kilogram of milk powder, according to the request made by the companies importing milk powder, may increase by Rs. 600, soaring the price from Rs. 1345 to Rs. 1945. In addition, the price of a 400 g packet of milk powder will soar by Rs. 260, making it cost Rs. 800.
