Dengue fever is deadly. If you have a fever for more than 24 hours, consult a doctor – Dr. Sudath

Date:

The Director of the National Dengue Control Unit, Dr. Sudath Samaraweera has stated that anyone with a fever for more than 24 hours should seek medical advice as a dengue epidemic is spreading in the country.

“Dengue can be fatal to anyone, and there is a risk. We have to do what is necessary to get rid of it. The most important thing is to get timely medical advice.

One of the things our doctors are currently experiencing with the current epidemic is an exacerbation of the disease. Or that this hemorrhagic condition, the possibility of a traumatic event, is happening sooner than usual. Earlier we were advised to have a blood test if you have a fever for more than three days. But in this case, it is very important and also to be clear that if someone has a fever for more than 24 hours he or she must seek medical advice. You should seek medical advice, especially if you suspect dengue, and have the necessary specific tests or blood cell tests. It can be used to calculate the platelet count and to determine if dengue is present and if it is at risk.

So no one can be relieved that the death toll is low. The next thing is that if someone has a fever and they especially need to rest. It is not good to be tired. Some people may have a slight fever but they ignore it and work on it. We have seen such cases escalate. So you need to rest well. Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration. If you have a fever for more than 24 hours you must seek medical advice ”

Specialist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera stated this addressing a media briefing held at the Government Information Department today (31).
