Public servants and Samurdhi beneficiaries to receive special allowances

Date:

The Cabinet has decided to grant a special monthly allowance of Rs. 5000 to all public servants starting from January, Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa announced.

All disabled armed forces personnel and government pensioners will also be entitled to this allowance, he noted.

Meanwhile, the Samurdhi beneficiaries will be receiving an additional allowance of Rs. 1000 per month, upgrading their monthly allowance to Rs. 4500, starting from January

The Finance Minister made these announcements during a briefing held in Colombo today (03).

The paddy farmers will also be provided reliefs, as the Cabinet has decided to pay a price of Rs. 75 per kilo of paddy in consideration of the shortage of harvest amid the fertiliser absence. The measure, however, will not impose any burden on consumers, said Minister Rajapaksa.

The Finance Minister added that an allowance of Rs. 5000 will be provided to farmers engaged in home gardening at an area of below 20 perches and an allowance of Rs. 10,000 will be provided for those with an area of more than 20 perches and less than an acre.
