Former Monetary Board member denies allegations at CoPE, sends letter to Chairman

Former member of the Monetary Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) Samantha Kumarasinghe denied the allegations made during the meeting held at the Committee on Public Enterprises (CoPE) on May 25 stating that they are false and baseless.

In a lengthy letter addressed to CoPE Chairman Charitha Herath, Kumarasinghe denied the allegation levelled by Monetary Board member Dr. Rani Jayamaha that his consent to approve the resolution on releasing dollar deposits belonging to the CBSL to prevent the Sri Lankan Rupee from being depreciated was vital, adding that the action simply could have been prevented had Jayamaha herself opposed it.

Dr. Jayamaha, however, did not oppose the resolution, he added.
