January 27, LNW (Colombo): Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s wife, Shiranthi Rajapaksa, has been summoned to appear before the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) to provide a statement.
According to reports, she was informed on January 23 to appear before the FCID today (27) at 9.00 a.m. The summons is linked to ongoing investigations into alleged financial irregularities involving a bank account maintained under the name ‘Siriliya’ during Mahinda Rajapaksa’s presidency.
The FCID noted that investigations into this matter were first initiated during the ‘Yahapalanaya’ government.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organizer and Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa has also been summoned to appear before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). A notice directing him to appear yesterday (26) was issued.
SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam stated that the notice was served yesterday morning while Namal Rajapaksa was on an official visit to India.
