Opposition Leader condemns opportunistic politics amidst crisis (VIDEO)

Date:

Despite the discussions on methods to be adopted to navigate the country on the right direction, many of these discussions cater to the political game of switching parties and sharing ministerial positions, Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa said, addressing the meeting of the United Grama Niladhari Association at the Opposition Leader’s Office yesterday (01).

What should happen at this time is to think about the country rather than thinking about oneself, and instead of becoming a burden to the country by growing ministerial positions, all should enter into a national integration programme under a new system, Premadasa pointed out.

Elaborating on the importance of prioritising the country, the Opposition Leader emphasised that altruism should be used instead of selfishness and opportunism should be replaced with the well-being of the people. Accordingly, all should come forward to solve the country’s problems in an enlightened manner, he added.

All members of the ruling party and the opposition can contribute positively to a united country building programme through a parliamentary committee system, Premadasa went on, adding that this is not the time to collect privileges and enjoy luxurious lives. Thereby, the country should be built through participatory development and the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and the Samagi Jana Sandhanaya depend on it, he pointed out.
