Cabinet approves import of 300,000 metric tons of rice

The Cabinet has approved the importation of 300,000 metric tons of rice. The relevant cabinet paper has been submitted by the Minister of Trade Bandula Gunawardena.

It has been decided to import this rice with the intention of releasing it to the market in the event of a rice shortage. Accordingly, 200,000 metric tons of Nadu rice and 100,000 metric tons of another type of rice will be imported as a substitute for Samba rice.
