The debate on the 22A postponed

Date:

The debate on the 22nd amendment draft of the Constitution was scheduled to begin today. However, Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said this morning that the debate had to be postponed.

He mentioned that the reason for this is that the 22 opposition groups did not agree.

At the party leaders’ meeting held this afternoon, an agreement has been reached to postpone the debate on the 22nd constitutional amendment draft until the next parliamentary session.

The main reason for postponing the debate is the lack of agreement even within the ruling party MPs group regarding certain matters included in Article 22.
