Former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa addressed the public for the first time since his resignation on May 09 at a special Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) rally held in Kalutara yesterday (08), revealing that despite early criticism on Ranil Wickremesinghe, he will be ready to support him and his government.
“As you may all know, we are facing many challenges today. We have the strength to win these challenges. With that strength, we have to win these challenges and implement the programme required by the people of this country. The duty of a government, I believe, would be the identification of these needs and the fulling of them. Therefore, we have taken steps to fulfill that duty,” Rajapaksa said.
The ex-Prime Minister further added: “May we get together and protect this government and the programme by Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe. We may have criticised Ranil in the past, that he is a UNPer. Now Ranil is with us. So, we say good about Ranil. Because I believe that he has turned to a good path. May I end my speech by wishing you all victory and remarking that we will go forward by extending our support to him.”
