Low-level atmospheric disturbance in South-East expected to develop enhancing rainy conditions further: Met Dept

The Low-level atmospheric disturbance in the South-east of Sri Lanka is expected to develop further and therefore, rainy conditions over most parts of the Island will expect to enhance further, the Department of Meteorology said in a statement today (09).

Showers will occur at times in Eastern, Uva, North and North-Central provinces and in Matale district.

Showers or thundershowers will occur elsewhere during the afternoon or night.

Heavy showers above 100 mm can be expected at some places in Eastern, Uva, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces.

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Marine Weather:

The Low-level atmospheric disturbance in the South-east of Sri Lanka is expected to develop further during the next 48hours, therefore it is requested to be vigilant in Naval and fishing activities in the sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Kankasanturai via Batticaloa and Trincomalee.
Condition of Rain:
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the sea areas around the island. 
Winds:
Winds will be North-easterly or variable in direction. Wind speed will be (20-30) kmph.  Wind speed may increase up to (40-45) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Batticaloa to Puttalam via Trincomalee, Kankasanturai and Mannar.
State of Sea:
The sea areas off the coast extending from Batticaloa to Puttalam via Trincomalee, Kankasanturai and Mannar will be fairly rough at times. The other sea areas around the island will be moderate. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
