Tourism State Minister says bars should be allowed to open 24 hours

Date:

Bars, restaurants, hotels and shops should be allowed to open 24 hours a day, should tourism generating revenue be promoted in Sri Lanka, said State Minister of Tourism Diana Gamage, speaking to Parliament yesterday (02).

Letting them open 24 hours a day will allow to derive maximum revenue from the tourism industry of the country, the State Minister pointed out, adding that tourists cannot be expected to spend money if bars, restaurants and shops are closed at 10.30 pm in the night.

“We cannot make the tourists spend money, if we don’t have night economy,” she noted.

The State Minister added that a mechanism should also be implemented allowing tourists arriving in the island to make bookings and payments to visit wildlife parks and other places soon after their arrival at airports.
