Two ships carrying 37,000 metric tons of fuel were released from the Port of Colombo this morning (19).
It is based on the prompt intervention of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
Udaya Gammanpila, Minister of Energy stated that 10,000 metric tons of this fuel will be used to generate electricity for power plants in the country.
Accordingly, a consignment of diesel sufficient for 8 days will be released for power generation.
Gamini Lokuge, Minister of Power and Energy stated that there is a possibility of providing uninterrupted power supply if fuel is available today.
