Infant dies by fire after lamp falls

Jaffna (LNW): A 6-months old infant has died after succumbing to injuries sustained by a fire caused by a bottle lamp, Police said.

The fire took off after a bottle lamp fell inside a room-like house in Thoravil, Puthukkudiyiruppu, Mulathivu area, and the infant who was exposed to the fire and sustained injuries was admitted to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital.

The infant’s death was confirmed two days ago (01) as it succumbed to the injuries, according to Police.

The family of the deceased infant has been living with immense economic difficulties, merely making a living inside a small room. The incident happened on March 22nd, and according to Police, the infant’s parents were outside the room at the time of the accident.
