Covid: 82 more omicron infectees found

82 persons infected with the new Covid variant omicron have been identified, following 88 samples collected from the society last week and tested in the Institute of Allergy, Immunology and Cell Biology, University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

These infectees are of two sub-variants of the omicron variant, discovered in the Colombo Municipal area, Kesbewa and Mathugama.

The remaining six samples are of delta variant infectees, reported from Horana, Mathugama and Panadura.

Accordingly, the omicron variant of the virus is spreading across the country rapidly and the health sectors urge requirement to continue the vaccination process.
