Health hazard at Galle Prison: Prison affairs restricted

Colombo (LNW): Prison affairs of the Galle Prison have been restricted to a period of 14 days in the occurrence of a health hazard in which several inmates were hospitalised due to contracting Meningococcal disease spread by Meningococcus bacteria, Additional Prisons Commissioner General Chandana Ekanayake said.

The two inmates had died due to the infection of Meningococcus bacteria which led to the disease, and sixteen inmates are receiving treatment for the infection.

In the backdrop, the Judiciary is being consulted to hold the judicial affairs via video technology, he added.
