Dehiattakandiya Hospital faces crisis with sole surgeon’s departure

Date:

Colombo (LNW): Trouble paved the way itself into the Dehiattakandiya Base Hospital with the departure of its sole surgeon from the country, resulting in a complete halt to all surgical procedures and leaving patients in a state of desperation, reports said.

The Hospital Director has formally communicated the crisis to the relevant health authorities through a letter, yet decisive actions are still pending.

A total of 50 surgeries, including critical emergency procedures, have been suspended indefinitely, the letter outlined.

Despite efforts to redirect patients to nearby medical facilities such as the Polonnaruwa Hospital, the prevailing congestion in these alternative hospitals has caused significant inconvenience for the affected individuals.

Expressing the urgency of the matter, the Hospital Director has appealed to the authorities to promptly intervene and address this critical situation, recognising the immediate need for a resolution to ensure the continuity of essential medical services for the community.
