Date:

School textbooks for 2022 have not yet been printed properly, revealed the Ceylon Teachers’ Association.

Speaking to a briefing, Union Secretary Joseph Stalin emphasised that textbooks for new classes must be printed and distributed to children immediately in the event that the third school term will be over on April 07.

Revealing that over Rs. 4,500 million is spent for the printing of school textbooks, Stalin added that these funds are allocated from the Budget for the distribution of textbooks in time.

The Union Secretary went on saying that it has taken about three months to provide these textbooks for the new class, but as far as is known it has not been printed in the required quantity.

Had the issue occurred due to the government’s financial problem, it would be a serious matter, Stalin went on, adding that in the past textbooks were sold by the book publishing unit with less printing of textbooks for free distribution.
