Today’s (Dec 18) weather: Showers to follow a continuous routine; misty conditions expected

Colombo (LNW): Showers will occur at times in Northern, North-central, Eastern and Uva provinces, with several spells of showers being expected in the Hambantota district too, the Department of Meteorology said in its daily weather forecast today (18).

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in other areas of the island after 1.00 p.m, the statement went on, adding that fairly heavy showers above 75 mm are likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

Misty condition can be expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces in the morning.

The public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Marine Weather:

Condition of Rain:
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankasanthurai. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the other sea areas around the island.
Winds:
Winds will be South-easterly to Easterly and wind speed will be (25-35) kmph. Wind speed may increase up to (40-50) kmph in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankasanthurai.
State of Sea:
The sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankasanthurai can be fairly rough at times. The other sea areas around the island will be  moderate. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
