Opposition parties plan no confidence motion against Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena

February 26, Colombo (LNW): Opposition parties have recently announced their intention to table a motion of no confidence against Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.

SJB MP Nalin Bandara Jayamaha, confirming this development during a briefing, cited the Speaker’s alleged violation of Parliamentary procedures by disregarding directives from the Judiciary concerning the Online Safety Bill as the rationale behind the decision.

Bandara further stated that the motion of no confidence would be formally presented in the coming days.

The decision to pursue the motion of no confidence was reached during a meeting convened by the Opposition parties earlier today.
