Showers and thundershowers expected in multiple provinces, caution advised for Heat Index (March 31)

March 31, Colombo (LNW): Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, North-western and Central provinces after 2.00 p.m, with showers or thundershowers being expected at a few places in Northern, North-central, Uva and Eastern provinces after 2.00 p.m.

Fairly heavy showers about 75mm are likely at some places in Sabaragamuwa and Western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces and in Kalutara, Galle and Matara districts during the morning.

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Condition of Rain:
Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo   and Galle during the afternoon or night.
Winds:
Winds will be easterly or variable and wind speed will be (20-30)kmph.
State of Sea:
Sea areas around the island will be slight to moderate. Increase of swell waves(about2.5 – 3.0 m) can be expected in the sea areasoff the coast extending from Mannarto Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambanthota. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

Meanwhile, heat index, the temperature felt on human body is expected to increase up to ‘Caution level’ at some places in Western, North-western, North-Central, Northern and Southern provinces and in Ratnapura, Monaragala and Trincomalee districts.

The public is urged to stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade as often as possible, check up on the elderly and the sick, never leave children unattended, limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated, wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.
