U.S. Department of Agriculture Pledges Support for Agricultural Sector

April 28, Colombo (LNW): Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Alexis Taylor, alongside U.S. Ambassador Julie Chung, convened with Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe and other high-ranking government officials to delve into avenues for USDA assistance to Sri Lanka’s agricultural industry. The meeting, held recently, reflected the unwavering commitment of the American people towards bolstering agricultural development and economic prosperity in Sri Lanka.

Under Secretary Taylor’s visit served as a testament to the enduring partnership aimed at promoting greater food security and fortifying resilience against climate adversities. Discussions during the visit reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s pivotal role as a priority nation in the 2024 Food for Progress initiative. This initiative is dedicated to augmenting food security and climate resilience by fostering environmentally sustainable practices and facilitating improved market connectivity.
