19th memorial event commemorates slain Journalist Sivaram, calls for justice and press freedom (PHOTOS)

Date:

April 29, Colombo (LNW): The 19th memorial event honouring the late journalist Sivaram was solemnly observed at Gandhi Park in Batticaloa on the 28th of this month.

Despite nearly two decades passing since his tragic murder, justice for Sivaram’s death remains elusive.

The commemoration ceremony, jointly coordinated by the Journalist Forum, Batticaloa Press Club, Association of Professional Web Journalists of Sri Lanka, and North East Media Clubs, brought together members of the journalistic community and concerned citizens to reflect on the enduring legacy of Sivaram’s courageous journalism.

Throughout the event, speakers reiterated the importance of upholding press freedom and ensuring the safety and security of journalists.

They emphasised that the unresolved case of Sivaram’s assassination serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by media personnel in Sri Lanka and the critical need to address impunity for crimes against journalists.
