Clash at Ragama Medical Faculty: Allegations against former State Minister not substantiated

The report of the committee appointed to probe into the incident of breaking into the hostel of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Kelaniya in Ragama and assaulting a group of medical students has been handed over to the President.

The allegations against former State Minister Arundika Fernando involving the incident remain unsubstantial, and therefore, the Committee has concluded that the former State Minister is innocent, a statement by the President’s Media Unit revealed.

The Committee report has further concluded that Fernando was not aware of the attack and that it was not carried out with the connivance or direction of the former State Minister.

Fernando’s son who was arrested in connection with the attack was remanded and later granted bail.

Following the event, Fernando tendered resignation to his post as a State Minister given that a vehicle belonging to his ministry was used for the attack.
