President announces plans for provincial economic development boards

August 11, Colombo (LNW): President Ranil Wickremesinghe has unveiled plans to establish Provincial Economic Development Boards to decentralise economic authority across Sri Lanka’s provinces.

The government is also working to simplify legal regulations affecting businesses and introduce a new institutional framework to support entrepreneurs.

Addressing the Kandy District Trade Association, the President emphasised the need for regional trade board strengthening and outlined plans to transform Kandy into a significant economic hub, with implementation slated for next year.
